Resident Wine Master Allan Mullins chooses a trio of exciting whites that are perfect for lifting lagging spirits.

IONA SAUVIGNON BLANC 2009
Andrew Gunn, owner of Elgin’s Iona Vineyard, doesn’t flinch when the icy winds whip through his high-lying vineyards. He knows they contribute to the coolest ripening conditions in South Africa. With flavours of nettle and grapefruit, apple and lemon grass, the unique Sauvignon Blanc 2009 is arguably his finest wine to date.

MULLINEUX FAMILY WINES WHITE 2008
The maiden vintage of the Riebeek Kasteel-based Mullineux Family Wines is a superb white Rhône-style blend with a shimmering lemon colour and a nose of white flowers, freshly cut lime, grapefruit, fennel and cloves. The palate is dense with a mineral core, making it a white that will benefit from decanting, particularly when young.

RADFORD DALE CHARDONNAY 2008
The Winery of Good Hope on the fringes of Stellenbosch lives by its credo of passion, quality and individuality, never more so than in the stylishly packaged Radford Dale range. This is a classy Chardonnay, with the crisp lime freshness and sleek minerality playing off the riper peach and apricot intensity.
