Derived from the French words for "pine" and "black", Pinot Noir is the most challenging and rewarding of all wine grapes, says Cape Wine Master Allan Mullins.
DANIE DE WET NATURE IN CONCERT PINOT NOIR 2009

Danie de Wet’s first Pinot Noir was a 2002, and the 2009 is a deep garnet colour with a rich sheen and a bouquet ofred and black cherries, plums, a hint of damp autumn leaves and well-judged oak.
The palate has savoury nuances with a fleshy texture, soft, velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish.

The palate is well rounded and elegant with an attractive fruit-acid balance and supple tannins.
It drinks well now but will mature nicely for three to four more years.

OAK VALLEY PINOT NOIR 2009

Oak Valley's 2009 Pinot Noir has flavours of black and red berries, cinnamon spiciness, forest floor and toasty oak on the nose.
The palate has classic varietal character and beautifully integrated tannins. It is worth cellaring, but drinks perfectly now.
Wine-maker Pieter Visser says he enjoys it with poultry, especially duck with rich sauces.
