How to:

Know if the fish you're eating is sustainable

What´s the deal with red roman? Is yellowtail an endangered species? Click to find out how to check the status and origin of the fish and seafood you are using to ensure it's from the safe, sustainable list.

Note on fish on the orange lis: torange fish such as kingklip is sometimes available from Woolworths. It's important to note that although retailers may legally sell species on the orange list, Woolworths suppliers source kingklip from only hake fisheries approved by the Marine Stewardship Council so they can be sure that the fish is a non-targeted by-catch to hake. Woolworths will not sell by-catch that is targeted, overfished or from a non-accredited fishery, or if the catch method results in environmental damage.

Recipe by: Abigail Donnelly
Serves: 4
Allergens: Wheat free
Dietary considerations: Pescatarian / Dairy free
Category: Easy / Great value / Quick
Prep time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 x 80 g pillow packs Asian-leaf salad
4 Granny Smith apples, thinly sliced into rounds
1 x 500 tub pickled fish
2 limes, quartered
sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
Cooking instructions:

Distribute the Asian leaves between four bowls.

Stack the apple rounds beside the leaves and add a few pieces of the fish.

Drizzle with lime juice and season to taste.

For dramatic effect, add cucumber ribbons together with a few sprigs of mint – a fresh contrast to the fiery fish.

Cook's note: Tubs of pickled fish are readily available at Woolworths stores. Or, you can also make your own pickled fish at home, click here for our recipe.
