Great garnishes for drinks

Raise the stakes at your next dinner party with one of these fabulous home-made garnishes.

1. Roll whole cinnamon quills in cocoa powder and use to dress milky cocktails, panna cotta or eggnog.

2. Make your own candied orange rinds by simmering fresh orange rinds in a syrup made of 1/2 cup sugar and one cup water until translucent. Use them to embellish chocolate mousse, cheesecake or a classic Long Island iced tea.

3. Toss coarse sea salt crystals with fresh lime zest and sprinkle over braaied seafood, or use to give a tang to a classic margarita.

4. Desiccated coconut dusted onto the damp rims of glasses adds an elegant touch to daiquiris or chocolate-and-hazelnut shots. Try it, too, with individual mousses or jellies set in glasses.

5. Edible baby flowers add a pretty touch to the presentation of rose-water cocktails or muddled-berry mojitos.

Try them with these great drinks:

Honey and litchi mojitos

Ginger beer float

Passion fruit and vodka sparkle

Sparkling lime-infused sangria

Mango and chilli margarita
