Bananas are more or less available whole year round, but we often run out of ideas how to use them. Here are a couple of classic and novel ideas.
- Add baked bananas to chicken korma
- For a Cuban-inspired breakfast, serve fried eggs with stir-fried bananas and chilli sauce.
- Bake a banana in the skin, open up and drizzle with orange liqueur and melted white chocolate.
- Add sliced banana to thinly sliced sweet potato. Pour over a packet or can of Thai green curry sauce and bake. Serve with pork fillet.
- In small glasses, layer sliced banana, tinned Caramel Treat and cubes of vanilla cake. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
- Make a rye sandwich with sliced banana, dates, cream cheese and pecan nuts.
- Bake bananas with crushed cardamom seeds, treacle sugar, orange juice and orange flower water (available from Woolies). Eat with tagine or for breakfast with yoghurt.
- Slice bananas and mix with granadilla pulp. Pour over cream.
- Squeeze some lemon juice onto peeled bananas, pack them in plastic freezer bags and freeze - perfect for frozen banana daiquiris and ice-cold smoothies.
