It’s official. Woolworths is the world's most responsible retailer for the second time in 3 years. It's the cherry on top of a host of awards won in 2010.
This was announced last night (26 October 2010) at the World Retail Congress Awards in Berlin, Germany.
Woolworths won the award for "Responsible Retailer of the Year 2010", competiting against 5 major international retailers.
The other finalists were:
· Kingfisher (World's leading home improvement retailer)
· Cargills Food City (Rated the 4th most valuable brand in Sri Lanka)
· O'Boticario (World's largest perfumery and cosmetics franchise)
· New Look (European beauty and fashion company), and
· Teknosa (A computer company in Turkey).
This award is confirmation that Woolworths is on the right track in doing business in a truly sustainable manner, especially in transformation, energy saving, Farming for the future and conserving water.
The Good business journey is now beginning to be a pervasive part of how Woolworths do business, grow value for their stakeholders and how they act on the deep values that underpin this organisation, especially the value of sustainability – build for a better future.

At the annual Ask Africa Orange Index awards ceremony held at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg on Tuesday 19th October 2010.
