This winter, StreetSmart South Africa, a local charity aimed at helping street children, are using soup as their unlikely weapon against this growing problem.
Selected restaurants throughout the Western Cape will be serving delicious, warming soups throughout the winter. These tasty broths should draw people in off the chilly street, a voluntary R5 donation will then be added to the bill of every table, 100% of which will go to StreetSmart SA.
These funds are used to provide education and skills training for children on the street to help them reintegrate into society. Last year these skills included practical skills to enable these children to find gainful employment as well as general life skills to help them more easily fit into society.
Furthermore, some funds go to the operation of care facilities, support of social workers, and services aimed at reuniting street children with their families.
Since its inception in 2005, StreetSmart SA has raised over R5.1 million and made a invaluable contribution towards rectifying the problem of street children in South Africa

These are just few of the participating restaurantsm the full list of which can be found here.
The enticing soups range from exotic lemongrass to rustic pea and ham and should be one of the most delicious ways to be philanthropic this winter.
