In the November issue of TASTE, we asked you for your favourite blow-the-budget restaurants.
ROOTS
“Overlooking a tranquil lake, the setting of this restaurant is beyond compare,” says reader Elaine Kruger. “Add to that the quirky yet beautifully presented food and you’ve the ultimate recipe for a special occasion splurge.”
Indeed, award-winning chef Allistaire Lawrence is known for putting a modern spin on French classics (as shown in dishes such as glazed duck with sweet potato fondant), and conjuring up playful desserts (think blue cheese and rhubarb crumble).
Those wary of choosing wines to match these idiosyncratic offerings are advised to opt for the wine-pairing menu, where each dish is complemented by an expertly selected tipple. “It’s not a place you can afford to visit often, but, when it comes to experience, it’s priceless,” concludes Elaine.
