Jacques de Jager of Salt at the Ambassador

If there were a prize for a view, Salt in Bantry Bay would certainly scoop it. With Jacques in the kitchen, it's set to win prizes for its menu, too.

Now that view is matched with food of the same outstanding quality since award-winning chef Jacques de Jager joined Salt from a chic winelands setting in Franschhoek.

Salt’s sophisticated menu now boasts modern flavours with wonderful local ingredients. The lunch menu, which differs slightly from the dinner one, boasts a delicious piece of Chalmar beef with hand-cut chips and a bowl of
sublime Béarnaise, which compliments a starter of a fine slice of duck pâté terrine with a shallot vinaigrette.

Jacques’ presentation is simple but beautifully unique, as showcased in his signature dish – the delicate and moreish quail and crayfish ballotine with truffled beetroot purée and Americaine foam.

Sumptuous rhubarb panna cotta or a slice of baked cheesecake with a spoonful of the most unbelievable salted caramel ice cream is a perfect ending to a meal in this superb dining room with a view.

Find Salt at the Ambassador Hotel, 34 Victoria Road, Bantry Bay, 021 439 7258. The restaurant is open daily for lunch (12:00 - 15:00) and from 19:00 for dinner, with pre-dinner drinks served in the SALT bar lounge.
