TASTE bobotie-battle 2012: Ingrid Jones vs. Benny Masekwameng

TASTE reader Ingrid Jones went up against MasterChef judge Benny Masekwameng in a battle to make the best bobotie, a classic South African dish.

The TASTE team blind-tested both Ingrid and Benny’s boboties and, although a very tough call, Ingrid’s took the honours. Food Editor Abigail Donnelly declared her lamb bobotie “creamy and fragrant, with a good balance of spices, a subtle vinegar taste and superb topping”. Although she loved the “clean flavours”, she found Benny’s dish lacked “sauce” and needed a thicker topping.
